Dead Mountains are are one of the most distinguished mountain ranges in
the Northern Limestone Alps in Upper Austria and Styria.
With a surface of 1130 km², it is the Europe largest karst plateau
caracterized, in the east, by a dry landscape of sharp limestone peaks
above 2000 m, sinkholes and caves.
The highest point is the summit of Großer Priel (2515 m / 8251 ft).
This crossing leads through mountain forests, oversized flower-filled
meadows and the heavily karstified and partially devoid of vegetation
plateau with fossilized shells, snails and corals, sinkholes and caves.
